BHF welcomes Kat McClure

The Breast Health Foundation (BHF) welcomes Kat McClure to their team; Kat will be managing corporate affairs of the foundation.

Meet Kat

My journey with cancer wasn’t out of the ordinary, as a woman of 58 I had enough knowledge to understand that that I needed to look after myself and do female cancer testing regularly. There is no breast cancer in my family and I had never had an odd mammogram. So, I went along happily. On the day of a scheduled mammogram, in 2019, I went toa different radiologist and after the mammogram he asked for another picture. I knew that something was not right. Even though I was a picture of health; I ran five days a week, ate well and didn’t abuse alcohol and had never smoked, it still happened to me.

I had a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. The journey after surgery is a long one and at times challenging but necessary. A day doesn’t go by where you know you will never be the same woman, both physically and emotionally. Out of all this has come my love and passion to help other women who are dealing with this disease. I’ve never felt more motivated and passionate to help and love these women at their lowest moments in life. I was a volunteer at BHF for a year when I realised this is now my life. Now, I’m working at BHF full-time and know that we have one mission, which is to make a difference to women on their cancer journeys.

One step at a time. Happiness is not by chance, but by choice.”
