Breast Health Foundation welcomes Malebo Kotsokoane
The Breast Health Foundation welcomes breast cancer survivor, Malebo Kotsokoane, to our team. Malebo will be the patient navigator at the breast clinic at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital, in the north of Pretoria in the township of Ga-Rankuwa.
Malebo was diagnosed with Stage 2 hormone positive breast cancer in December 2017. Unfortunately, she experienced many delays throughout her treatment.
By the time, she was able to start chemotherapy her breast cancer had progressed to Stage 4.
Nonetheless, during her treatment journey of chemotherapy, surgery and radiation, she kept faith in her doctors and nurses, and emphasises the importance of listening to them.
Once her treatment was finished, it was witnessing many women waiting in the breast clinic queues, receiving incorrect information that inspired her to start volunteering and guiding them through their diagnosis and treatment.
Malebo has detailed knowledge of the Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital Breast Clinic systems and will support the breast cancer patients in this unit.
Words by Malebo – “Live a life of purpose and be brave.”
